Edvard Munch: The Scream (1893) - This work is public domain.
Feeling frustrated or anxious about the current conditions in the world? The Scream may be an outlet for us all at the moment.
As Edvard Munch's best known work, it has become one of the most iconic images in the world. It was conceived in Kristiania (modern day Oslo, Norway) when he was out walking at sunset with two friends. He states he, "heard the enormous, infinite scream of nature," and sought to paint that emotion. You will influences of Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, and Heri de Toulouse-Lautrec in his work. Viking Cruises, with award winning river and ocean cruises, has a new concept they are sharing with the world: Viking.tv. It has daily live stream programs on art, music, history, culture, and guest speakers.
The presentations are live streamed at 2PM EDT but past episodes are available on demand. Viking's partners of Highclere Castle, TED talks, the Munch Museum, and more make these productions possible. In addition you will find information on Viking Cruises and even a children's section.
I highly recommend exploring their website offerings and their cruises as well. If you want to browse Viking River Cruises or ocean cruises click here. The episode below goes into detail about the background of The Scream, its robbery and return, and two short segments on its restoration. The presentation is about 30 minutes followed by question and answer from the live stream. You can watch this episode in full screen on Viking.tv.
The world is waiting to be explored. Subscribe to our blog and each Friday you will discover new destinations for your bucket list.
